The sound of Australia is something we’ve become familiar with as listeners overseas. We think of Flume, Peking Duk, What So Not, Wave Racer.
We’ve since associated a feel-good, summer vibe to the down under sound. But with only a year in the scene under his belt, Sydney’s Golden Features steps in to disrupt this pattern of thinking.
There is a new wave of Australian artists that are a driving force in the forward-thinking house realm. Artists like Dom Dolla, Terace, Benson, Torren Foot and, of course, the quickly rising Golden Features. Pumping out originals and remixes with heavy, driving basslines and grumbling tech sounds, there’s a gritty realness that sets it apart from a stereotypical EDM house track.
In March 2014, Golden Features dropped a self-titled EP and was subsequently named MTV Australia’s “Artist to Watch.” We watched. And he delivered again, this time with a more refined EP entitled XXIV.
The young producer, now teeming with support from dance music’s finest, concocted four very distinct sounding tracks. Two of which feature sultry sounding female vocalists, Thelma Plum and K.Flay. “No One,” the official single off the EP featuring Plum, plucks and pulsates its way through the speakers. Best of all, XXIV is available via free download for seven days.
Big things are on the horizon for Golden Features. Not only is he making waves in Australia, but he is set to make his U.S. debut at the end of July. With only three club dates and one festival appearance, you better act fast.
