As an NFL player, being inducted in your team’s Ring of Fame is a distinct achievement not many people are privileged to have a chance at doing.
Unless you have a brain, keyboard, and the ability to click a big ‘create’ button.
The Denver Broncos website has created a ‘Fan Ring of Fame’ generator that allows fans to submit a name, jersey number, and year – then turn it into an image that confirms they’re in Broncos lore forever.
Great idea, right?
Yeah, except it’s hardly regulated so just about anyone – real or fake – can become a Denver Broncos legend. The only thing you can’t do is use swear words in the generator. Other than that, it’s a goddamn free for all.
UPDATE: The Broncos website has taken down its Ring of Fame generator but we had our fun with it before they were able to do so. Now that I think about it, we may be the reason it was taken down. Oh well.
For instance, Terrell Davis? Nah, how about Adolf Hitler.
Yeah, this is a real thing that the Denver Broncos website allows you to do.
The only limitation (other than swear words) is the name has to be less than 14 characters. Unfortunately, this limited me to astutely named villains and sent me away from the likes of John Wayne Gacy, Osama bin Laden, and Lee Harvey Oswald.
However, this guy was fair game.
And after a quick tinker, so was he.
And that no swear word thing I told you about – it wasn’t very difficult to create a close alternative.
OK, enough with the evil people making their way into Mile High.
Well, I guess that would depend on how you define “evil people.” Because I would venture a guess that die hard Broncos fans would classify these folks as evil.
And probably faint if they ever saw these names in the actual Broncos Ring of Fame.
I would have figured that a full list of former Raiders players would have been the first thing to be flagged as inappropriate before the words ‘fuck’, ‘shit’, and ‘asshole.’
Priorities, I guess.
You can quite literally mess around with this thing all day long. The definition of mindless fun.
So to call it quits I’ll leave you with a few Hollywood sporting greats that never won a real championship. This is what the Ring of Fame was actually created for.
