There’s an unlikely hero emerging on the enemy lines against Roger Goodell’s crusade against fun in the NFL. It’s none other than a candy bar company.
Butterfinger, to be specific.
As part of Butterfinger’s #BolderThanBold campaign they teamed up with Billy Eichner and Terrell Owens, and they’re offering to pay any touchdown celebration fine – up to $50,000 – levied by the NFL in the season’s final three games.
Per the NFL, the minimum fine for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty is $11,576. That means Butterfinger can pony cash over for four of these bad boys.
That means one player each from the Carolina Panthers, Arizona Cardinals, Denver Broncos, and New England Patriots has the opportunity to dance their asses off should they score this weekend.
Naturally, that got me thinking about which remaining players are most likely to take advantage of such a sweet, sweet deal. So, thanks to Butterfinger, I give you my four most likely candidates to get fined but ultimately not lose money from Roger Goodell on Championship weekend.
As of right now, no one dances better or more often after a touchdown than Cam Newton. And it’s a pretty safe bet that he’ll score at least once on Sunday, so I’ll give him even money to take advantage of going the extra mile for free.
Gronk isn’t known so much for dancing as he is the “Gronk Spike.” However, he’s in a serious war of words with the Broncos right now and if he finds the end zone there’s zero doubt that he’ll have himself a good old time.
Yo soy fiesta.
I don’t know what the hell John Brown does in the end zone each time he scores, but he’s definitely the most likely Cardinals player to get hit with a celebration fine. Seriously though, what the hell is this?
Manny Sanders has a record of getting flagged after finding the end zone. Whether it be the ‘Southside,’ the ‘Harlem Shake,’ or mocking the Ray Lewis dance; he’s going to do it. I like Sanders as my pick from the Broncos to get bailed out by Butterfinger.
