The Mets have every reason to be cocky. Hell, they’re up 3-0 in the NLCS vs. a very good Chicago Cubs team.
But there is such thing as being overly cocky. And as a result of the Mets’ hubris, the Cubs may have just caught their biggest break of all.

Someone caught this on the Mets’ official team website, already celebrating the team as the NLCS Champions, and images of pennant merchandise accompanying the ad.
This is a big no-no in the world of sports.
If you remember, the San Francisco Giants started celebrating a World Series win vs. the Angels until the rally monkey kicked them right in the jewels. I definitely watched this video after typing that line. I implore you to do so and bathe yourself in the comeback juju.
Whether it was a minor glitch or over-confidence, the Mets have just shot themselves in the proverbial foot. It’s most certainly a bad omen to announce victory before the first pitch is thrown, the same way that it’s terrible luck if the anthem singer starts singing and the mic doesn’t work – which of course happened to Wayne Mesmer last night.
The Cubs may be down, but they’re certainly not out. And the Mets have just made the biggest mistake ever to let them back in this series.
