The Olympics come once every four years and not a single person cares about them until the Opening Ceremony, so if the news I’m about to tell you catches you off guard I’ll understand.
The 2016 Rio Olympics this summer will be Michael Phelps’ final games; (GASP!) and to send him off proper (without the bong, of course) sponsor Under Armour is running this “Rule Yourself” campaign leading up to Rio.
I won’t lie to you, as I never do: This ad is powerful. It cannonballs directly into an Olympic-sized pool of feels.
Michael Phelps is the most decorated Olympic athlete in the storied history of this nation. And while swimming isn’t generally on the forefront of our sports minds, Phelps holds a place in a lot of sports’ fans hearts— both young and old, competitive or casual.
Frankly, he individually transcends his sport the same way Tiger Woods did.
Watching him swim for one final time is going to be surreal. There will not be a dry eye in the house.
On a side note, we told you just how ridiculous of a year Under Armour had in 2015. And with the quality of this particular video, you can go ahead and chalk up “Dope Ass Cinematography” to their list of early accolades in 2016.
